i want a good program (doesn't have to be freeware) that can record sound from any source (mic, line in, online radio station, ect) thanks!

i use the creative recorder that comes with sb and set it to what you hear

I use Sonic Foundry Soundforge... it's a good choice.

TotalRecorder works great. It will record anything you hear and in the case of steaming audio will stop recording when there is no sound (eliminates any momentary gaps that may occur). It will also stop after the stream is finished. Nice for unattended recording (with others you have to stop them manually). Sounds can be saved as wavs or mp3.

One quirk though, under settings it's best to put the audo settings back to your SC when you aren't using it (from the through Total recorder play/record settings) as some games won't work right.

Somehow Cool Edit Pro seems like overkill for someone who has asked for an alternative to Sound Recorder. :D

I just happen to be a CEP user, but that's why I mentioned audacity too, it's nice and simple (and multi-platform :) )

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
