Just a couple of queries....

What is the fastest AMD processor?

I've also heard AMD is popular with gamers, how come?

THe fastest is the 3000+, and gamers like them because they are cheap, and faster in games than a equivelant P4. (debatable so don't start another Intel vs. AMD fight)

Cool thanks for the info No intention of starting a fight, just doing some college work and wanted a few opinions.

Do you know where i could find any benchmarks of the AMD being better at running games and why this is thought?

Thanks

Neo

Hehe this saves me from starting a new thread really:)

Is there much difference between the 2ghz AMD 2400 XP
and the 2600 XP Barton chip?

mhz wise? no not really, speed wise yes. barton is a new "more effecient" core.

More effecient? :D ;)

Yes, but krux is right, the Barton core is highly optimised. While running at the same speed can perform better.

I know they were meant to be separate points but "3000+" and "cheap" shouldn't be put in the same sentence :D

I know i have queried this already, but what makes an AMD system a good gaming system, is it basically down to price??

XP2700 and XP3000 are the same speed, just a 512 on board memory on 3000 compared to 376??ish on xp2700, i got the 2700 as its 200 quid cheeper :)

Cheapest I found a 2600XP Barton was £135....
Anybody know where i can buy dirt cheap PC hardware? (UK)

there is a 2600+ barton ?

AFAIK there is a 2500+, 2800+, and 3000+ barton... never heard about a 2600+ barton...

There is no 2600+ barton.
Only 2500+, 2800+ and 3000+, and in a while the 400mhz 3200+\

There are 2 2600+'s.

1. 2600 with 266mhz Tbred B. running at X mhz
2. 2600 with 33mhz Tbred B. running at X- a little bit mhz.

I can't remember the X that's why, but the 333mhz 2600
is running at a little less than the 266mhz version.

1700+ = 1.47 GHz
1800+ = 1.53 GHz
1900+ = 1.6 GHz
2000+ = 1.67 GHz
2100+ = 1.73 GHz
2200+ = 1.8 GHz
2400+ = 2.0 GHz
2500+ Barton = 1.83 GHz
2600+ 266 FSB = 2.13 GHz
2600+ 333 FSB = 2.08 GHz
2700+ = 2.17 GHz
2800+ = 2.25 GHz
2800+ Barton= 2.08 GHz
3000+ Barton= 2.17 GHz

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
