Advanced Micro Devices will rev up the performance of its Athlon XP processor with new models, due later this month.
The chipmaker will introduce, at a minimum, an Athlon XP 2400+ and an Athlon XP 2600+ for desktop PCs toward the end of the month, sources familiar with AMD's plans said. AMD is also evaluating whether to increase the speed of the chip's front-side bus--the pathway used to shuttle data between the processor and PC memory. Doing so would boost the performance of future Athlon-based PCs.

rest of the story

Never mind about the AMD boost. Did you see the front page article about vendors taking advanced orders for the P4 2.8B 533MHz chip? Now that's what I call a performance boost. I don't believe I am off topic on this thread since it has to do with CPU's.:D :D :D

Well I don't care if anybody thinks that ur off topic SnookBooger
I was just posting news that I thought some ppl would like. And yes I saw that post on the front page also

Thanks for sticking up for me (no one else does). Nothing wrong with your posting news, especially if it is related to the latest CPU technology. Glad you saw the P4 post on the front page also.

???ok, I'll stick up for ya too...not only can you post anything pertanent to any thread you want...if you want to highjack a thread, you can do that to...you have my permission:D

Well SnookBooger as Dealer said u can do what u plz with this thread since its on the front page anyways

more athlon speed boosts wont matter much. athlon is set to take over for duron as the budget cpu when clawhammer and opteron are introduced.

true..

also remember that there is such a thing as operations per clock cycle and no matter what intel does thats got to be pushed up more than anything else..

yes the pc's run cooler... but they also do less work per clock cycle... therefore need more to perform at same level as amd...

the thing is though... the current northwoods have a 533 bus speed if I am not mistaken.. so the 2.8ghz processor with a 533 bus speed is not a big surprise... remember that intel can scale higher and quicker along the processor speed schedule mainly due to their having a different architecture...

amd can't go so fast... or has been unable to because of bottlenecks in their process... but the new thoroughbreds are scaling quite nicely it seems... from 1.8 to 2.0 to 2.13 ghz? I would call that pretty impressive for a chip that was written off as having no more life in it...

kudos...

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
