I'm building a 64 rig for a friend of mine. This will my first 64 build and am looking for suggestions on a HSF that is pretty quiet as the machine will reside in her bedroom.

I'm going to be using either a 3000 or 3200 Venice core, most likely on a nforce 3 board.

I've been looking at one of these:

Also, has anyone had any experience with this mobo? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813138249

Thanks.

With Cool & Quiet the HSF noise shouldn't be an issue when the machine is not being agressively used. And if it is in serious use the clicky claky of keys will be just as loud and more likely to wake someone up.

Make sure you get one of the quiet mode power supplies too and thermostatically controlled case fans. Over 50% of the noise out of my machine is case fans now, even with them throttled down.

$50 bucks for a HSF, argh!

And line the sides of the case with cork. It really helps kill the video card and CPU HSF noise.

If I were to build an AMD64 myself, either the 3200 or the 3400 with Venice, and I don't OC it, would the Stock HSF be sufficient?

I will be using an Antec Sonata case, Panaflo 120's, and an Antec Surepower 420.

Don't worry 'bout it Luna. We all have the occasional brain fart. :p

Swiftech XP-90 or 120 Both work amazingly.

Or the Zalman 7000 and 7700 series.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
