Hi, I havent bought a new computer or upgraded my system for
quite a while apart from a cd writer,
And I have a limited budget, after looking
about on various sites I come to this for a start, I'm not
interested in overclocking or games so this is it,

Msi m/board 648 max
Pentium 4 2.4 ghz with 533 fsb and 512 not to sure what this bit
is, northwood. ( No Amd please)
and one peice of corsair 512mb 2.700 memory.
Sorry if some of the above is a bit unclear, but as I say I'm a
bit rusty.
many thanks

im also planning on buying new parts and i choose this (almost the same)

msi 645e
pentium 4 2.4 ghz
256 mb ddr 2700 ram

well i dont see that part of this thread where u give the choices.:D u just put what youur going to get.

Looks good. Get 512MB and not 256MB. It's worth it. What about the rest? HDD, graphics, sound and so on.

i already have a 80gig hdd geforce 2mx440 64mb 15" tft flatpanel 48x cd-rom 24x cd-recorder 384 sdram

alittle help on choice please

Hi, Sorry I knew I would leave out some important information,
I already have a 40 gb and a 20gb Ibm hard drives, cd writer,
Dvd player and a Sony Triniton monitor,
I guess what I should have asked was does anyone know of
this equipment and would it all go together.
As for alternitives I havent thought of this at this stage.
Many thanks

my question is this.

If your on a limited Budget why you buying over-priced Intel's for ?

save yourself some bucks, buy a AMD.

tones10, those parts you have in mind should all work fine together. but there are some others you might be forgetting...

- video card. not sure if you don't already have one because you didn't mention one.

- power supply. if you're upgrading your current machine, it most likely will need a better power supply for your new parts. 350 watts or more is good.

- heatsink. i also doubt your old heatsink will be enough for 2.4ghz. if the cpu isn't going to come with one, then get a $10-$20 one somewhere. i don't think it has to be very expensive or hardcore.

That was my thinking! AMD's are nearly 1/3rd to 1/2 the price of an Intel. You can get like the XP 2200+ for like $100 or the 2400+ for about $150. The 2100+ is about the equivlant to the 2.4 Intel and the 2400+ is about the 2.6 Intel (if memory serves me correctly, if not someone here will correct me). Granted the 2.4 Intel has droped in price considerably but is still at the $170 -$190 range (last I checked).

Hi, Thanks for your replies, firstly I have a matrox g400 32mb
v/card which I like a lot, I will buy a new case probably
a Chieftec with its own 360 psu.
As for Amd I have always had pentium cpu's from the original
pentium up to my present pentium 3 600e, never once have they given me any problems, the P4 I will buy is retail and comes with its own heatsink, and is £132 inc vat, which has come down a fair ammount.
Many thanks.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
