yep, I would start looking for a virus first, but it could be many things and corrupt font or folder anything really

It would only be a missing system font that is needed to display all of the fonts on your screen

I would start with modifying your appearance settings under dtop properties, changing the default font, etc.
Then I would go with Iceman's response, run a virus scan.
