AGP slot speed??

I have a motherboard with a 4X AGP slot. Does this mean that if i get a video card with 8X AGP, i cannot use properly?

You'll be able to use it, just not at it's peak performance.

8X AGP is not all that important anyway - its been proved that the increace in performance over 4X is minimal.

A 8X card will run perfectly well in a 4X slot.

they are both operating @ the same speed...

pci = 33mhz...
agp = 66mhz...

the difference is in the bandwidth... you have 2 times the theoretical bandwidth with 8x than you do with 4x..

unfortunately nothing really takes advantage of this @ this time...

if you can get 8x boards... thats kewl... the top of the line cards are bottlenecked by the bandwidth limitations as is... :)

but you will not notice a performance increase... cept in some benchmarks... in the range of 1-3 fps.. tops..

in games like quake 3.. with people hitting 300 fps... that is not a noticeable difference...

so.. no.. don't worry about it :)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
