adding to the path

How do I add something to my path so when I use the command line I can access executables? I know how in win9x/NT/2000, but I can't figure it out for XP.

'the command line' <the command prompt? You'll need to use tildes and ones. 'Documents and settings' you'll need to truncate to 'Docume~1' etc if your directory is over 8 characters long. If it is, type the first 6 characters and then add ~1 to it.
