accessing a drive that is not part of a domain

Background:

We have an NT network running here, and occasionally get visitors with laptops (running XP) using this network, but they don't log onto the domain, but to a work group and have thus access to all the resources on the net.

The problem:

While these people have access to all the resources, we cannot connect to their laptops, because they are not part of the domain (so sharing a folder does not work).

I used to know how to connect to the root C$ of a computer that is not part of the domain, but I forgot how to do it. It was some kind of a DOS command, and I was even possible to map the C$ as a network drive.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

open up run dialog and then...

\\computername\C$

Yeah... and you will need to log into the computer as a local account, such as administrator.

it actually works with the 'net use' command:

net use * \\PC1\C$ /user:valid_user_name_on_PC1 valid_password_for_that_user_name_on_PC1
