not sure if this will work, but give it a shot

go to hkcu\software\microsoft\internet explorer\searchUrl and make a new key under that called whatever you want the prefix to be (ie "g"). set the default value to http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%s . Then you have to make four more string values under that key.

one with no name and value "+" without the quotes
one with name "%" and value "%25"
one with name "&" and value "&26"
and one with name "+" and value "%2B"

then restart your machine and test it out
