3 CD/DVD ROMS attached to 1 IDE Channel?

but... dlovely... is that not your board up above?? i see three ide connectors... good for six drives! you don't need to buy anything.

just hook your harddrives up to the raid channel. they don't need to be in a raid configuration at all. i say put your harddrives on it because not all raid controllers support optical drives.

I've seen some mATX mobos which have only one IDE socket which comes with a 4 plug cable for having 4 devices on the same channel. But it only has that due to not having a secondary channel on the mobo.

Best option would be to get an offboard pci ide controller card like 2z mentioned :)

Fortunately for me, I have 2 extra IDE sockets due to having a RAID controller onboard - I use the primary RAID channel as a normal ATA133 IDE channel. Only thing stopping me from plugging in my spare (and possibly tempramental) 30Gb Quantum HDD is a lack of power adapters on the PSU - time for another Y splitter to test I think :)

... need a new case too tbh

Actually his best option would be using his third ide channel....why spend more money on somethin he already has

Ya Taurus thats my exact board. I haven't tried hooking it up and was seconds away from purchasing the Promise controller from googlegear.com for $38. I'm gonna try hooking up the drives to that and let you guys know how it goes. Do I need to install extra drivers for that? I guess i'll find out when I plug it in lol

thanks

you may need to enable it in the BIOS first (usually comes under "RAID Controller" I think in the "Integrated Peripherals" section).

then when Windows boots up, it will find the device and prompt you for drivers... you can use the ones off the CD you got with the motherboard or you can download newer ones from the manufacturer's website and install them.

Usually needs a reboot when done, but it should all work fine afterwards :)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
