Hey there

A friend of mine got an offer of a 256kbps dsl connection.
How's the download speed in this connection?
About 32KB/s?

Is this speed good for streaming media and downloading files ?

Or is it actually less than 32Kb ?

32k sounds about right. Well that depends on what the media is and how big the files are. Sound isn't a problem, video is harder.

Downloading files would take a little while. About 30 seconds to a minute per meg to download files at optimum conditions. For streaming files, audio would be no problem and mid-range video would be ok. High quality video encoded at 300K and above would be a problem for your friend if it's live video. If it's standard HTTP streaming, it would have a long buffer before playback.

I don't think bursting is possible on DSL. But I could be wrong.

well, off a good ftp server, I can get +300KB/s... on cable

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
