2 Questions Please Help!!!!

OK I have done searches for my 2 problems but cant seem to find anyone with the same probles as me. I am sorry if this has been posted before and I wasnt able to find it.

My first problem is with my Control Panel Start Menu Icon. It is comming up as a "bluured" immage just colors no image. Yet everywhere else it shows up fine. It also performes the correct function. Is there any way to see why this is occuring and fix it???

My second problem is that my search function is not working properly. Whenever I click on search companion side window pops up but it is just a blank blue side bar. does anyone know how to fix this.

BTW I am running Wndows XP Pro any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You can use TweakUI in thge current powertoys to rebuild the Icons

Select Start, All Programs, PowerToys for Windows XP, Tweak UI for Windows XP. Select Repair at the bottom of the tree list, and you'll see Rebuild Icons selected. Click Repair Now, and those icons should be good as new.


With regards to the search there is an issue, if you are not online while using it , it falls over 🙁

try this - go to a command prompt and type

sfc /scannow


hopefully that will fix it

Thanks for that tip, I tried both things out and neither worked. The search function used to work but dosent now, I am on a cable modem so I am "always" connected status. and the control Panel Icon in the start menu is still messed up, and thats the only place it shows up erroneous. javascript:smilie('😕')

about the icon....did you do an upgrade ?? Im just guessing this cuz i had the same problem, except it was the control panel icon in my computer that was messed up. After a lot of trouble, i managed to fix it (gonna require some deep registry diving), but i cant remember exactly how i did it. Didn't have the problem when i did a clean install.

Problems

Yes I upgraded and it was the Icon itself that was messed up I got rid of the Bad Icon but now the control panel Icon in the start menu is just a folder. does anyone know where I can change it??? I am comfortable with hacking the registry so thats not a problem. I reinstalled the upgrade and now my search function works again. BTW I found that the Icon for the control Panel is pointing to a folder that no longer exists. 😕

Off topic

Amar Singh did you ever get the built in cd recording ability back for XP. In an early post you made, you said the record tab was missing all together from the properties tab of the burner. I am having the exact same problem - just wondered if you ever found a fix to restore the record tab and XP's built in cd recording feature.
