Hi I have connected my sons pc with mine with the above connection,he can share my ADSL connection fine, we run 'Borg Chat' ok and can chat and send files etc, we have 'shared' all the selected folders etc on each machine(Both xp)but the computers do not 'see' one another, how can we see and share files and folders??????Many Thanks.

Have you tried going into My Network Places and clicking "View Workgroup Computers" to the left?

Also try going to Start>Run and type \\computername

I kno for my setup I cant see the list of computers all the time but using \\computername works all the time.

Have you checked to make sure that you have Guest access enabled on both computers? If you don't, you will have to have identical usernames/passwords on the computers in order to easily view the files that you shared.

Hi,thank-you all for your replies,I have enabled the guest account. In My Network places it only shows my PC,the '\\computername' does not work, I will keep trying though, as its strange we can share ADSL etc, but not 'see' one another.

Just noticed something. Did you setup the connections manually or did you run Internet Connection Sharing?

If you did setup the connection manually, try doing this:

PC 1 (computer with ADSL connection):
Note: Do this on the network adapter that is connected to the other computer.

IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0

PC2:

IP Address: 192.168.0.4
Gateway: 192.168.0.3
Subnet: 255.255.255.0

Reboot the computers are you do this. This will cause the computers to be their own routing gateway and thus, you will be able to see the other computer without issues.

Or, if you want, you can run Internet Connection Sharing on the computer that has the ADSL connection. This will probably fix it too.

I ran the 'wizard',all I can see in Network Neighbourhood is MY PC!!!,yet ADSL connection is ok, and I have the Local Connection icon in taskbar.Wierd.

Have you opened up any firewalls to allow access over your LAN? Don't forget Windows firewall will default on if there is no other firewall installed.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
