I have a solution!!! before looking on the net, I decided to uninstall the monitor driver (and at the same time check the option to delete it in the driver cache on the system - so it didn't come back, so to speak) and rebooted - the monitor is now classed as a 'Generic Monitor' in the...

Hi failurbydesign, something just hit me - I had closer look at your screenshot - you're using the 'SyncMaster 205BW/204BW, SyncMaster Magic CX203BW/CX205BW(Digital)' monitor driver, right? I'm using exactly the same monitor driver - my monitor is a SyncMaster 205BW!! Almost certainly the...

Hi all, well M$ suggested that I do a clean re-install as a way to solve the problem. That's a good idea, and would probably work, and I would do it if I had the time. But I really don't have the time right now, so the problem remains. M$ don't know the cause of the problem or how to fix it in...

Hi, thanks for the feedback - it's good to know it's a rare problem, at least. My guess right now is that it's not a graphics card/graphics card driver problem (see above), and probably not a Vista problem per se - more like an unfortunate interaction between some software installed on Vista...

Hi, ...after *hours* of well-meaning tech support I've had today from M$, there still isn't a resolution on this one. And this is after nearly a week. I won't bitch, as they're trying their best to help. ...will update more as I hear more, B

Cannot select multiple files in Windows Explorer

Hi American Zombie, thank you - now I see exactly what you mean. I guess I was confused because in XP there was only ever the option to customise folders from within Windows Explorer, and not in Control Panel (as I remember)... and so the logic of what you've said follows, thanks again, B

Cannot select multiple files in Windows Explorer

Hi, thanks for the reply ...do you mean the view options shown in Windows Explorer? I meant the 'Folder Options' applet in Control Panel - within the 'View' tab of this applet, there is an 'Apply to Folders' button... that's what is always greyed out. Incidentally, if I open anywhere in...

Cannot select multiple files in Windows Explorer

Hi Felicitous, ...since you mention Folder Options, I was wondering if everyone was seeing something strange, that I noticed: no matter what I try in terms of customisation, I always find the 'Apply to Folders' button in the 'View' tab is greyed out - I mean I've never seen it active! Weird...

Cannot select multiple files in Windows Explorer

Hi, I'm using Home Premium - retail / non upgrade. So far, the problem seems to be gone for good since I created a new admin account, and deleted the old one. Still - seemed to me to be drastic action to solve the problem. And as I mentioned before, it still doesn't explain why it happened...

Hi, a quick update on this issue. I had two calls today from M$ support, and it seems they're "upgrading the issue" to their "research department" - or something like that - as I remember. I also took the opportunity to mention the fact that we know the same problem can happen on two types...

Hi failurbydesign, I agree about you say about the video card - I mean I wondered about it, as in I didn't think it was the cause, in your case or mine. Different cards from different manuf., different drivers - but the same problem. So I guess that something deeper in Vista must be the...

Hi, I've had exactly the same thing - and as failurbydesign pointed out - only in this one program, the 'Preview' right-click option. The orange-yellow colour cast is the same too. I wonder if it's graphics card drivers; since I see he's using an ATI card, whereas mine is an nVidia (GeForce...

Cannot select multiple files in Windows Explorer

Thanks NetRyder, have to say that the problem did retured again - even after the fix above worked - after about a day. Took a deep breath and contacted M$ support and the only action that got things right again was to create a new admin account, and delete the old (apparently currupted) one...

Cannot select multiple files in Windows Explorer

Hi all Well, I guess no-one here has had this problem - but posting a solution, for anyone in case they do in future (or until M$ offer a patch).. it's a registry hack - as always, hack the registry *at your own risk* - as follows: In Regedit navigate to each of these keys (some may not...

Cannot select multiple files in Windows Explorer

Hi all, first ever post on this forum - sorry that it's a complaint about Vista :( Been running Vista for a couple of days, and I now find that I cannot select multiple files in Windows Explorer. I can only multiple-select on the Desktop, which is hardly a consolation! It's a real pain...
