Ubuntu, Grub and my disk config don't get along

oddly, grub counted my SCSI disk as disk 0 because of the way my BIOS is setup, I guess. Either way, I went back and tried again using 0,1 and it worked. Amusingly, I'd tried this very same config previously and it refused to boot so I'm not exactly sure what the deal is. Nevertheless it works...

Ubuntu, Grub and my disk config don't get along

Seriously, I don't think I've done anything wrong here, but it's killing me trying to figure out why Ubuntu's grub boot loader can't seem to figure out how to boot from my root partition. Suse does quite fine so I'm not sure what Ubuntu's issue is. Regardless, here's the rundown. 18GB SCSI...

    Free Credit Report

According to myfico.com, checking your credit score DOES NOT lower your credit score.. The only types of inquiries that lower your scores are ones made by your request as though you're trying to get credit. Checking your score or companies pulling your credit report to see if you pre-qualify for...

    Looking for an mp3 player...

I use foobar at work... I run it off a flash drive and it works beautifully... The only catch is that it won't minimize to the tray that I know of. The interface is also less than pretty. Functionality-wise, it's great.

when is a laptop not a laptop?

I agree that a laptop should never get THAT hot... however, the simple fact that things like that sell tells me that apparently some laptops are getting hotter than their users would like.

    problems with remote network

if you're using a wireless router, make sure you're forwarding the port properly. Are you using VNC or Remote Desktop? forward port 3389 for Remote Desktop, 5900 for VNC. :)

when is a laptop not a laptop?

With some notebooks weighing close to 10 lbs now... I'm not even sure I'd want to hold one on my lap for too long.

    Firefox vs Konqueror vs Epiphany

I haven't been home yet to test it out.. I'll be home tomorrow and I'll try that out and see how it works. Worst case scenario, I'll just compile from source. The only thing that sucks is because FC3 puts Firefox in a weird location, I'll have to uninstall the rpm version and install my own.

    Firefox vs Konqueror vs Epiphany

I agree... While it's nice that Epiphany is so much faster, I miss nothaving the extensions that firefox offers. I just wish Firefox could beoptimized in the same way that Epiphany is. It's kinda the same waywith KDE vs Gnome... KDE has its advantages but they don't outweigh thepro's of Gnome...

    Firefox vs Konqueror vs Epiphany

I do agree that in fact Epiphany is barebones, but it works pretty well. I still think Firefox is overally the best browser, mostly because of all the extensions and themes available for it. It does seem that the more plugins you add, the slower it gets. I have a habit of loading it down with a...

    Firefox vs Konqueror vs Epiphany

In my experience, Firefox sits at around 55-60MB of RAM on my Linux box... On Windows, it just keeps sucking down the RAM until you finally look at it and go "HOLY JESUS!" and close it. I've seen it well past 100MB on several occasions in Windows.. never so on Linux. However, vern.. you do owe...

    Firefox vs Konqueror vs Epiphany

I have to agree, though.. Epiphany is wicked fast under gnome and runsflawlessly. It's a no-fuss no-frills browser that works. Pages loadinstantly. I honestly think that FF runs better under Windows than itdoes under Linux. I think Epiphany and Konq are kinda like Safari andare faster for the...

    Firefox vs Konqueror vs Epiphany

Well, I normally use Gnome as opposed to KDE. I did notice that Konq was stupid fast under KDE, which makes sense as you said that QT is already resident in system memory. I even tried FF under Windowmaker and it was a *little* faster, but since WM doesn't populate your menus with installed apps...

    Firefox vs Konqueror vs Epiphany

I'm running FC3 and have all three browsers installed on my system...From what I've found, Konqueror is infinitely faster than Firefox...Epiphany seems to be every bit as snappy as Konqueror, but Firefox justseems to be laggy and take forever to switch tabs, redraw pages, etc.I've tested under...

    Webcams and Ubuntu

argh... why on earth did some of my words get all squished together like that? I even fixed it and it did it all over again! Anyway, back on topic, Fedora gives you the option to install compiling tools but I don't believe they're checked by default. As far as Gentoo goes, you don't really have...

    Xandros 3 deluxe

I'll agree that Linux has its learning curve, but it's rather rewarding once you do actually take the time to learn it. KDE and gnome have added some GUI configuration tools that have eased the process of configuring most things (especially Samba), but there are still some options in the config...

    Webcams and Ubuntu

ahh... mine worked fine under 2.6.9... I would assume there's very little difference in 2.6.8 and 2.6.9... I'm running 2.6.10 now and it's not made any difference at all. That's just plain weird why your cam won't work. I dunno if you've considered this, but there's some supposedly very good...
