if you create an image it will usually be compressed...if your 40gig drive is at capacity and you were to create a CD image, the imaging software would span the image across multiple cd's...you can't compress a 40gig image to just 1 cdrw

for the boot to a cd issue...check the BIOS...boot order...as for the 4100's not being able to boot to a cd...that is false...I had a 4100 and never had trouble booting to a cd or installing xp!!! Check your boot settings in the BIOS
