    The many faces of AOL

...or just threw a few dozen in the parking lot every day; just enough to be a real nuisance and do that every day. :)

    XP SP2 and local pages/scripts

Yeah, I understand the risks, but it only effects local files. I still get the warning when downloading files and such. I figure the between my Norton Antivirus, Zonealarm firewall, Router/switch firewall, and Adaware, I am fairly safe from all but the most malicious attacks. Even then, I have a...

    XP SP2 and local pages/scripts

Glad to be back! You know, I come back for a few days, then forget about this site for a while (yes, I know, that is sacriledge :)), only to come back again when something has me totally stymied. Now I think I'll go browsing around the forums and see what's new. Anyway, hope my trials and...

    XP SP2 and local pages/scripts

Well, after needlessly fiddling with the stupid security zones for quite a while, I found the answer and it is so easy it's embarassing: Control Panel -> Internet Options -> "Advanced" tab -> scroll down to the "Security" section -> Check "Allow active content to run files in My Computer".

Hackers Smell Blood In Common Windows Interface

IIRC, the Athlon64 CPU provides protections against buffer overruns on the hardware level. Would this be enough to negate this threat?

    XP SP2 and local pages/scripts

Hello all, been a long time since I've been here, but hopefully everyone is still as friendly as they used to be... I have recently installed SP2 on my XP box and when I try to view locally saved web pages that have any type of scripting, I get the information bar asking me to allow or...

Where to find P3 Xeon CPUs?

Oh well, I should've known. It's gonna cost a pretty penny for 5 new servers. The software is another thing altogether; we have troubles even when we install service packs! I think we'll just limp along for now. Thanks all...

Where to find P3 Xeon CPUs?

Hmm, haven't looked there yet, but there are 2 reasons why I really don't wanna go there: 1: Reliability. These CPUs will be going in servers that are on 24/7 and there are monetary penalties if there is any downtime. 2: Quantity. There are 5 servers with 2 CPUs in each. I'd need to find...

Where to find P3 Xeon CPUs?

Title sums it up... What is the fastest Intel 100MHz FSB PIII Xeon available and where can I buy them? The company I work for uses servers with dual 700MHz PIII Xeon CPU's (100 FSB). We use these servers for some pretty intensive Crystal queries and have found as time goes on that they...

HDD not dtected on windows xp?

Did you maybe disable the IDE port in Windows? Go to Device Manager, select the "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers" section. Right click the channel your non-appearing drive is on (primary/secondary IDE Channel). Then go to the Advanced Settings tab. There are two ports for each channel, are both...

    maxtor or western digital?

Or... get one of each! :) Seriously, you're gonna have tons of different opinions, so I'll give ya mine: Maxtor: Had two quite new (less than 6 mos old) seperates drive burn up recently, but I suspect the problem in my case is with my PS and standby. My other two maxtors (80GB and 160GB...

    Download MP3 Store?

Ok, um, what exactly is that (--alt-preset)? This is what I do when ripping: Rip to WAV @ 44.1kHz/16bit/stereo (CD-Quality) using "Free CD Ripper". Then I use Acoustica MP3 to WAV converter (which uses LAME compressor), encoding at 320kbps, stereo, constant bit rate.

    Backing up- HD/DVD/other device

Well, I thought something like that at first too, but on the product comparison chart, it puts DI above Ghost in the features list. Why would Symantec knowingly downplay their version if they want to migrate over to Ghost in the long run? So I figured they were positioning DI to replace Ghost...

    Download MP3 Store?

The MP3 encoder I have (Acoustica MP3 to WAV Converter) does use the LAME encoder. I just use 320 because it's the highest bitrate available. I get almost the quality I want with the filesize and compatibility I want. :)

setting up raid in dummy terms

If this array will be your OS drive, get the RAID drivers copied to a floppy because you'll need them. You might also want to get out your mobo manual as RAID setups can be different from mobo to mobo. Hook up both IDE drives as master on individual IDE cables so there is only one drive per...

    Download MP3 Store?

I understand that too, but you would think there would be enough people that want hi-q MP3's that at least one company would offer the format I'm looking for. As far as I can tell, each company is using similar crappy formats. Hell, I wouldn't even mind downloading a 50MB WAV file even though it...

    Backing up- HD/DVD/other device

It works really well! The newest version (7) retail package includes DI7 (DI=DriveImage) and DI2002. The older version is for Win98/ME/2000. DI7 is for Xp/2000. Although you need to install the MS .NET framework (which is included) for DI7, but it's worth it. DI7 will let you create an image of...

    software to rip dvd audio

Looks like it just uses your soundcard to tap into the audio instead of taking it from the DVD directly. I'm gonna give it a try, but I bet simply using any kind of WAV editing software where you can select the source to record from will work just as good.

    dvd to vcd or svcd

I believe DVDXcopy ("Gold" version and up) supports that feature. The Xpress version simply copies a movie to one DVD even if it wouldn't normally fit. It even removes the previews, menu, and other parts that don't directly relate to the movie itself. If the movie is really big, it will reduce...
