KCNY, Thanks for recommending KillCopy. It seems to have sped up the transfer process from my local hard disk to my USB external hard disk a little bit. Instead of a steady transfer rate of 8-15MBps, it's about 23-26MBps... it's still tremendously slow. Why is Vista so horrible at this?

Unfortunately my plan failed. I used Format Factory to import the video as an AVI, however for some reason Windows Movie Maker will not play the video at all. I can hear the audio but no video, and the AVI Decompressor is checked (and fails when not checked as well). *Sigh*!
