    64bit or 32bit

Why bother? I've got pretty much everything I need in XP and I'm used to it. I don't move to a new OS just for the sake of it - it actually needs to match my workflow.

You really can't boot off cd into recovery console? Sounds like your HDD may be failing.

    DirectX10 & Games

Crysis doesn't just 'should use shaders', Crysis IS DirectX 10! :P Also, where a lot of games are failing because of no runtime existing probably has nothing to do with the fact that DX10 can't emulate DX9 and more that they are hard-coded to look for as specific DLL which doesn't exist.

    Acrobat Reader 8 install error

Yup, having UAC disabled automatically sets the temp folder to not allow execution.

Yup, I'm going to format my rig and go back to XP. Vista is nice, but it's not mature enough! :(

    New 8800 Drivers released 100.65

Yay - they fixed a RESOLUTION issue and it's WHQL. Hopefully (according to NV head of engineering) now they'll start concentrating on performance rather than just getting it out the door.

    64bit or 32bit

Ah yes, based on those grounds (XP better for gaming at least for the next 5-6 months), then your advice is VERY sound. However, since we are going to start seeing DX10 exclusive games, you will need Vista eventually. That said, most of those games will also have a DX9 rendering path - it just...

    64bit or 32bit

That's a bit of a huge overstatement there. I can guarantee that a lot of the up-and-coming games will NOT be 64-bit simply by the fact that 64-bit drivers are a pain in the arse and most 'gaming' hardware tend to release the latest drivers on the 32-bit platform, not the 64-bit. 64-bit gaming...

    64bit or 32bit

It's just ironic that MS calls this the 'gaming' OS, then. :P If they really wanted to badge it so, they should've coordinated their release with some decent video drivers!

Vista is really, really bad for games atm. I've noticed at least a 50% drop in performance when compared to XP. Stick with XP for now if you play games.
