Default Exchange 2003 MTA Stacks failing to start on bootup

Hey guys,

We're having this strange issue with the Exchange 2003 MTA Stacks everytime we boot the server up. I also believe that we have period issues that occur throughout the day, but I need to confirm that. For some reason or another, when the server boots the MTA Stack is set to start automatically but doesn't. When going through the event log, we see the following error message:

Also just to mention, there is nothing listed on eventid.net per comments on the page that really helps. There is a message in the application log about:

Event source: MSExchangeMTA
Event category: Field Engineering
Event ID: 9409
Date: date
Time: time
Type: Information
User: N/A
Computer: ComputerName
Description: The Microsoft MTA registry parameter Max RPC Alloc Size is missing. The default value will be used. (BASE MAIN BASE 1) (14)

But MS also claims this is a benign error.

is this a SBS server? Is it also running as DC? standalone mail server?

In task Manager, what is running under the two processes listed?

Do you have any 3rd party programs running on this? AV software, Backup Software, etc? does the error still occur if you disable the services?

Is does SA startup on the first try?

SBS Server? No.
Running as DC? No.
Stand Alone Mail Server? Yes.

3rd Party Programs - This box does have Backup Exec running on it. I haven't tried disabling the services related to that because of the urgency of the backups.

SA?

SA = system attendant. And I would try disabling the services as a starting point.
