get the upgrade... you can download it.. then just install it... you will need to reinstall your drivers... but u will keep all your programs currently installed

Seeing that it is new, therefore nothing important is on it, i would do a clean install. Clean installs will save you a lot of headaches in the long run. Fdisk and format the HDD first, and then install the OS on the newely formatted disk. This will significantly reduce driver/hardware conflicts, and the OS will run faster and more stable.
