they reproduced the problem, say it's the motherboard, replaced, sent off, I put the original hardrive back in, booted quick and I'm off and running let's see if the motherboard was the cause of the problem or a victim of the problem |

not the motherboard, obviously...gonna wait for a few more, see if they want to use the dump file to debug my new box, a gateway with 3 gigs memory is doing fine, lightening quick and hasn't had a stability issue once so it's definately some hardware on this hp |

If you want to post the dump I will look at it as I have all of the debugging tools installed.

That zip only contains a shortcut to the dmp file.
What vista is this? RTM or with SP1 RC and 32 or 64 bit Need to know as they use different symbols. |

like an idiot I sent the dump to the desktop without realizing I was creating a shortcut instead of a copy, it wouldn't copy manually but I dragged it over and I believe this is it, give it a shot

Without posting the complete output, here is what the dump said may be the reason for the fault.
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL VISTA_DRIVER_FAULT Probably caused by : bcmwl6.sys Quick search came up with that being a wireless network adapter driver. |

Not sure but at least you now have what the dump says may be the reason. If you get another BSOD and post the dump I will debug then see if it points to the same driver.
Any driver updates that you know of? Edit: This same laptop is ok at other places? Was just reading an article about a BSOD in a laptop with the dump file pointing to the bcmwl6.sys driver. After trying driver updates that failed to solve the problem the guy replaced the wireless router and the BSOD never happened again. Seems strange to me though that a router could cause this. |

see if the article says which router it is
seems strange to me also and here's the funny thing, I got these bsod's in a certain spot more often then other spots in the house maybe a frequency resonance thing I'm thinking |

seems like you may have to splash the cash on a new router:
http://www.computerhaven.info/forum/...e.aspx?m=65169 http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/...ad.php?t=24457 wouldn't mind but i'd read great things about d-link routers as my old belkin wireless router overheated and went bust last week ![]() no laughing in the back rows please! it may have been a belkin but it served me well for years, hasnt put me off saving up for this one: http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=341158 |
