Unhappy Vista boot failure with dual boot system.

Hi Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am hoping one of you can assist me with an annoying problem.

I have recently rebuilt my system and, since I am a keen but grey haired gamer, decided to put Vista on so I could get it together with Direct X 10!

Not wishing to give up on my old games I decided to dual boot with XP Pro on one drive and Vista on the other. I started with XP which went on fine and then Vista Home Premium which also was trouble free until I started to switch between the two systems.

Initially I had boot failures with both OS but having put on the latest drivers and updated Windows I am only getting problems with Vista. Vista will fail to boot after the initial splash screen at the point where the monitor goes black, shortly followed by the small circular Vista logo. The screen stays black and then the monitor goes to standby and that is that.

I can get Vista into Safe mode every time and can usually get it to boot in Normal mode after 3 or 4 attempts. I have all the latest MB and Video drivers for both systems, no conflicts and no clues from the logs.

Looking forward to hearing your ideas!

Thanks,

Old Pilot

I am running:
ASUS P5E MB
Intel Quad 6600
4 Gig DDR2 RAM
GeForce 8800GT Super+ (1Gig)
On board sound
2 x 250 Gig SARTA HD
