Windows XP Professional x64 Linksys Router BEFSR41 v1.4 I have a problem where my internet connection will drop at random intervals, only when actively using the internet, Not when idling. And it seems to only happen when I am using Firefox or Internet Explorer, not when talking on AIM or playing a game. In order to get my connection back I need to disable (not repair or ipconfig/release & /renew) my LAN connection and then enable it. If I try to repair I get the error that it cannot refresh the IP address. After this everything works fine for a while until it drops and then I have to do it again. Now the weird thing is that I have Windows Vista installed on the same machine on a different partition just for fun and it does not have this problem. Specs: CPU - AMD Athalon 64 4000+ Motherboard - A8N-SLI Premium Network Adapter - Marvel Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Control, Driver v.10.27.4.3 I am unable to recreate it but it seems to happen at the worst times. Here is a HiJackThis log for poops and giggles. Code:

Maybe try a different ethernet cable, network card or upgrade the driver in your XP environment? I know you said it doesn't happen within Vista, but since it appears random and can't be re-created I wouldn't pass on a possibility of hardware. Also try a different port on the router?

Well on a side note it hasn't happened in a while so I think I might have fixed it. I downloaded the newest driver (actually the same one) and uninstalled the one I had. I thin went and put the new driver in and I haven't dropped since.

I have an ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe mob with dual onboard gigabit network controllers. The NVIDA nForce became noisey some months back and I had to switch to using only one, the Marvell Yukon 88E88001/8003/8010. Since then, I too lost many a connection during active use (e.g. too many concurrent downloads or 2/3 of the way through a large .iso). Windows XP always shows the connection as good and connected, complete with IP address. Rebooting always fixes the problem, and usually disabling and re-enabling the controller works also.
I run a lot of Virtual Machines with MS Virtual PC, so this drove me crazy because each VM loses connectivity to the host, and thus file storeage and rebooting to the same state can take forever. Arrrrrg. Marvell released an updated driver 10.51.1.3 on 12/6/2007. So far, this has fixed the problem (I didn't download it until Jan.) Navigate to: http://www.marvell.com/drivers/search.do Search with Keyword= yukon 88e8001; Product Family=Yukon; Your Platform=Windows XP. Good luck ... and let us know, as I will, whether this has fixed the problem. |
