Default problem networking vista with xp

I have just networked 2 computers one with xp the other with vista.
Both computers can see each other and the vista computer can see the files on the xp machine. However, when I go to the xp computer and open view workgroup computers, both computers show up. When I try to open the vista machine to see the files on the machine it asks me for a username and password. I have not set either and can't figure out where this is coming from or how to fix it. Also, I am using a Linksys router.

Any ideas as to how to fix this.

Thanks

Darrell

You need to use the username and password of the account you use to login to the Vista machine.

Thanks for your reply.

The problem is that I did not set a password for login. I can boot the vista machine select user and go right to my files. No password is used on that machine.

Thanks

Darrell

As j79zlr said. It will not work with a blank password; Windows security by design.

Thanks again for your replies.

I am new to vista and am mostly ignorant to how to do much in it yet.

Could you please explain how to set up user and password.

Thanks

Darrell

Go to Start, Run and type in "netplwiz" (no quotes) and hit Enter. This will bring up the Advanced User Management window and you can set passwords from here. I believe the Reset Password button should do it once your username is selected - can't verify atm as I don't have Vista where I am though
