If you just can't wait the default three seconds when installing extensions in FireFox, try this plugin that will help you disable it entirely...

I read somewhere that there was a really good reason for the delay.

Thats a good reason I guess for the 3 seconds, but most of the time when your installing an extension you know where it's from, or u have used it before, or its popular, so it really dosen't matter.
