Every new folder is read only!

For some reason, every time I make a new folder, it defaults to read-only and I can't change it. It's really messing with my .bat backup files. I'm running XP Pro SP2, fully updated. Thoughts?

Hi,

Just a quick thought....

Are you doing this over a network?

and is the file your creating just inheriting the "parent" folder attributes?

No, this is not over a network. The last two folders are on my d: root directory...but it happens everywhere for some reason.

It doesnt matter if it is over the network or not, he is right ensure that the folder options are not set to inherite the parent folder properties...

yeah the network would cause the probs if the admin had set the permissions etc... or am i just talking bo***x?
