Default custom location for open file/save file dialogue box?

Hello, It's really bothering me having to browse through directories every time I want to open or save a file. Is there any way to a) change the default location for opening or saving a file (default is my documents), or b) change the alternate locations icons that appear on the left? I know b is possible because I have done it before, I just can't remember how & havent been able to find it anywhere.

If you dont know what i mean, im talking about the window that pops up when you open notepad (or anything really) and go to file> open.

Thanks in advance.

You could make a shortcut in My Documents and when saving double click that to goto where you want to.

Also, I know in Visual Basic 6 the way to change the save path was to edit the shortcut and change the "Start in:" path.

You can change the "Places Bar" in the open/save dialog box using the TweakUI PowerToy from Microsoft.

When you run TweakUI, expand the "Common Dialogs" list and you can add custom locations to the "places Bar"

Keep in mind that changing your place bar has no affect on Office.

For Office: You cannot remove the default places. You can only add places.

I am sure you can, I remember in a login script where we had it defaulted to their home directory.

We are talking about the same thing right?

No. The Places Bar is what you see on the left hand side of the Open or Save As dialog boxes.
