Re: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview

I just installed it on my work PC (figuring I am having enough problems with itas is) and it is awesome. Not too sure if I liked the tab browsing, but I'll work with it and see what I think.

And for the record, it is no longer "Microsoft Internet Explorer", it is now "Windows Internet Explorer".

The only thing I've come across so far is it seems to steal focus from other applications if you open up another window while a page is loading. Once the page loads it steals the focus back.

This is Build 5296, by the way. The leaked build that was making its way around the web last week was 5299. No changes were checked in between the two builds, so they're essentially exactly the same, apart from the fact that this one's an official release.

Virtual PC.

Which I now have thanks for Action Pack.

whats vm?
Virtual Machine, using either VMware or VirtualPC.
It allows you to run a test OS in a virtual machine so that your production system is unaffected even if something goes wrong. :)

Re: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview

I like the new IE and I am getting used to tabs. It also takes some getting used to the "bands" instead of having real menus (although you can add the menubar if you so choose).

Re: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview

I'm pretty impressed with the performance.
Quick Tabs is able to handle 40+ open tabs with ease, even within the VM with only 512MB of RAM assigned to it. :)

No, IE and Firefox can coexist on the same machine. They're totally independent of each other.
IE 7 will replace IE 6, but if you need to revert to v6 for any reason, it looks like v7 uninstalls cleanly, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview

I just installed IE7 on my production system here at home and it's running fine. I never thought I would be a fan of tabs.

Re: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview

yea i knew that they can be on the same machine, i was worried about the ie...so i guess ill try it out....

Re: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview

argh... i don't think i'm liking it. the fonts are squished (top-to-bottom) and i can't get my toolbar layout to be the way i had it in IE6.

Re: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview

argh.... how do you remove this?? :'(

I can't even log into hotmail with IE7. keeps trying to refresh the authentication page then loads an error page in msn.

Re: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview

Not sure what you mean by squished fonts. Have a screenshot?

The toolbar layout is a little more inflexible compared to IE6 in terms of customizability, but I think once you get used to it, it feels cleaner having just the back and forward buttons together and everything else separate. Besides, I believe the UI/chrome is still being worked on, so things might change before RTM.

And if you need to uninstall it, go to Add/Remove Programs and make sure the "Show Updates" box is checked.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
