Madmatt/Mastershakes...

If you remember the issue I was having, is that Outlook was not auto-resolving from previously sent to addresses or out of the contact list. Unfortunately, I know both of you had posted things that I hadn't yet had a chance to read. Could you re-post if possible? Thx!

EDIT: Also, I don't know if this matters or not, but the problem started happening after I added this laptop to a domain environment. Previously, it was working locally (no domain attached) and working fine. When I transferred to the domain, I exported the entire inbox (including contacts), to a .PST. When I logged into the domain, I imported the .PST.

Not sure if that matters, but I figured I would post that.

Here it is KC, the ultimate fix I found for you yesterday....

Basically, you create a new profile in Outlook. Once you do, you rename all the files in your old profile, to match the new...

for ex....

profile1, profile2 - profile2 is brand new, you just created it.

profile1.nk2 is to be moved, and then renamed as profile2.nk2 overwriting the new .nk2 that was just created...

Still trying to find the exact article, but it's very similar to the one above.

Great info, and I will check, thx!

Any ideas on it only occuring after I exported/imported through .PST?

Did you create a new profile, and then do that export / import of the .PST?
You can also export / import the .NK2 (auto-complete) ... maybe that's why it stopped working?

Basically here is what I did...

I went to import/export from the local profile, exported all folders (inbox, sent, contacts, calender, etc.) to a singular PST. I previously had done .CSV's, but I found they lose date/time information when exporting/importing e-mails.

Logged onto domain, imported, bam

No new profiles were created, just the profile that got created when domain was logged onto for first time.

Is it a separate Outlook profile now as well?

(bear with me here... I'm on thin ice I think)

yeah, it is....

outlook info is stored in the following locations....

C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

That folder is hidden by default.

Now, just for an example, if I had user name "derek" locally, and then "derek" on the domain, it would mutate like this....

C:\Documents and Settings\derek.localcomputername\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

C:\Documents and Settings\derek\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Domain takes control, forcing the local account to put a .computername at the end of it

k so you need to grab the nk2 file from

C:\Documents and Settings\derek.localcomputername\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

rename it to the same as the nk2 under the new one, then overwrite.

That does look real good, I'll have to give that a shot. Better than having to shell out $35 bucks for this P.O.S. http://www.ingressor.com/ingressor_products.htm

Well I'm certain you tried this already but my suggestion was to simply reboot the PC.

Occassionally my users have this issue and rebooting corrects it.

That was one of the first things I tried :)

I follow the mantra of S.A.R. (shutup and reboot) alot hehe. Thanks though! ;)

This seems to be working now, thanks guys, reps coming ;)

Now, onto another issue....

On first boot, and login, the laptop gets send/receive errors when trying to talk with the server, but after a reboot it's fine. I thought DNS, but even after a few minutes it still happens. Silly thing is after a reboot it works.

Thoughts, oh wise men?

That's a good one. hehe... you always think DNS (and usually you are right heh)

/shakes starts the new hunt.

Could I get a detailed error report KC?

I always think it because DNS is a pain in my a$$ ;)

Remember, this is the same PC as before. It works fine without fail logged in locally, but AGAIN on the domain it doesn't work :(

I edited my 1st post ... don't think you caught it...

Could I get a detailed error report KC?

Here are the two errors I receive, at any given time...

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;827349

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;813514

I went through all that stuff, connections are fine, it is up to Outlook XP SP3.

There is Norton 2006 on there, but only the AV, not the NIS, which does not have a firewall although I haven't checked that on the machine yet. Access to this machine is a pain sometimes. But, if it did, which I am 99% sure it doesn't, that would explain why it works after a reboot.

I think, from most I have found, I will try to re-create the outlook profile next, see if that works.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
