So anyway, all is good except for a few little things. Sometimes after installing software, such as sandra for example, upon reboot it says "new hardware found" and displays the wizard. For sandra, the hardware was "sandra service." It was in device manager, so I just uninstalled it and it never came back. Norton Antivirus 2002 did the same thing with something along the lines of "Symantec WMI service." 3DMark 01 did the same to it, but I can't recall the device name. Why is it installing services as devices when installing software and how can I prevent this from happening? It's not a big deal, but it is rather annoying. Eck |

Simple answer: The services are installed, and usually needed by the application.

I agree with MasterShakes. Some applications need to install as a service to run. For instance when Symantec has WMI, it needs to run ontop of other applications so it can utilize it's elevated priveleges. Don't complain, just appreciate it
