Default A weird problem

Any help on this would be appreciated. In my system I have 2 20GB HDD, 1 with XP on and 1 with 2000 Pro on. I also have a slot loading DVD drive and a CD writer. I have these set up so that XP HDD is master, 2000 is slave on 1 IDE channel and the DVD master, CD writer slave on the other IDE channel. For some reason last night after a while my DVD & CD writer starting clicking & whirring as if I had pressed eject and I got activity lights and my PC froze up. I had to reset the machine and this happened 2 or 3 times. In the end to stop it I had to go into the PC and drop off the CD writer and the 2000 HDD so that I only had 2 IDE devices attached.
What could have caused this? The only changes I have made lately is that I have installed Norton Internet Security and I have reinstalled 2000 Pro on that HDD.
As I say, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

this is just a trail and try...

first...try running ur xp hard drive in ide1 and ur cd writer in ide2...if it works then add ur dvd...

if there is no problem...try ur 2000 hard drive in ide1 (without xp) and try to add ur cdwriter and dvd...one at a time...

this way u will know what hardware is causing this problem...

just a thought...
