run ie over your old ie, see if it repairs itself...

I tried installing IE over what was already there and it told me I have a newer version then what I was trying to install. Don't see how that's possible...I got the the program/install from Microsoft.com. Plus this was only about a week after a clean install.

run the download directly from the internet...even if that dialogue comes up, there should be an option to cotinue, so do it...backup before you start.

If I were given the option to continue, I would have. A message just popped up saying the version I was running was newer then the version I was trying to install. OK to cancel...No other options

Might sound extreme, but why not reinstalling XP over itself ? I know that there was an option to repair IE5.5, but I don't remember exactly where, maybe in 'add/remove windows components', IE, repair, not sure if it's not elsewhere, someone may know what I'm talking about...

For those who wonder, my avatar has a name: Orca (an alpha male wolf). You can visit and support 'his' site at http://www.wolfpark.org/. Thank you very much.

That's not extreme, that's common, xp should recognize itself, and perform it's own repair

Reinstall XP to fix IE?

I think not.

So has anyone come up with a factual answer yet?

thanks!
