i am getting 100% cpu usage when i do a search for files and folders and the system slows right down, it appears to lock on c:/windows/java/packages folder. it takes about 5mins to get the task manager window to appear to stop the process. my commit charge also goes down very slowolyif i press stop on the search this seems to have no affect, any ideas welcomed by new home made pc owner and xp user. i thought xp wouldn't do things like this!!!!

System, xp home edition

Ati 128 rage pro grfcs card

Do you have explorer set to search in zip files? and for exact context? because the java packages directory contains the default java scripts which are stored in zipfiles since they are highly compressible. when windows gets to that directory it is probably unzipping and searching through all the packages which is why it goes slow and the cpu jumps to 100%

I am afraid I am not able to find where to change this setting. I can find other advanced search options but not this one I'm afraid.
