Default INCREDIBLY slow application start times

I have an Athlon XP 3000+ with an asus nforce2 mobo and 1gig of ram.

For some reason, my applications are taking an incredibly long time to startup, I've run all the antispyware apps, etc and I cant seem to figure out what is up with my system. I've included a log of all my startup apps...any help would be appreciated.

You only need one disk defragementer - unintall diskeeper and speeddisk

C:\Program Files\Executive Software\Diskeeper\DkService.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~1\SPEEDD~1\nopdb.exe
C:\Program Files\Raxco\PerfectDisk\PDSched.exe

you only need one anti-spyware app stop the others from auto-starting up but keep microsoft. Keep the others around on your system for if you ever want to run them

C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\TeaTimer.exe
C:\Program Files\BHODemon 2\BHODemon.exe
C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasDtServ.exe
C:\Program Files\SpywareGuard\sgmain.exe
C:\Program Files\SpywareGuard\sgbhp.exe

Great app
C:\Program Files\Ad Muncher\AdMunch.exe <-- WOOO! GO you!!

I mentiond to kill the nod32 antivirus service just so that you can check whether aplpications speed up. I recommend you kill this first and see if you notice a difference. If you do reconfigure it so it doesnt scan files in realtime in the background.

Default Re: INCREDIBLY slow application start times

Okay if you kill and stop everytinth I' listed there you should have a nice, fast, responsive system without a ton of crap starting up ni the background; and you have a LOt of crap loading up in the background.

You have several applications duplicting the same task competing for resources and probably conflicting with each other. You have some of the norton utilities so I assume you have the rest, these are notoriously unstable and buggy and should be removed as soon as possible.

Multiple defragmentation services running may all be trying to defragment the disk at the same time which will serioulsy slow everything down.

In general your system is in great need of a thorough spring clean. No offence intended but it doesnt look very well maintained from that list. I would suggest that you would possibly do better to format, reinstall xp and ONLY install applications you NEED. Avoiding things like Norton utlities, messenger plus, logitech drivers, etc that are just frivilous fluff known to cause issues.

You may want to consider a different firewall/packet filter to symantec - I highly recoomand outpost pro from agnitium.

I'd also recommedn Kaspersky Anvitrus over nod32 as it is far more likleyto catch and clean more viruses than nod32 ever will while consuming less resources and performing its job much faster - still keep real-time scan disabled.

ALl in all these tips should give you back your screaming bullet of a PC

Go to the link there and download the Free Trial and buy it if you choose.
Thats software made my system run like a fresh installation of Windows.

*gasp* you want me to kill *everything?* I will be nekid! teh spywares and virii will get me and make me incredibly slow...errr...hmm...ok on second thought maybe I'll kill a few things

I havent reformated since service pack 1. In fact I upgraded mobos with a windows repair...and my above startup items arent that bad...I use netrun which loads up another ten or so things when online...maybe then its bad..

maybe its time...although I think I'll just buy another drive and start fresh on that...
