How do you delete strings in your startup tab in the System Configuration Utility, I have so many programs that put themselves there that I will never use on startup and some that are just "suspect". How do I get rid of these permanently? I know I can uncheck them but can I remove the line altogether?

Go here - but backup first!!! and dont delete unsure ones without a backup.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

I found it in the registry but there is only one string there.. and a optional components folder. I think Im lost.

Thanks, only a few listed there also.. i deleted the ones i could but still have so many more i dont use. I also have a few that have no description and i few that I have no Idea where they come from. Check this pic out to see what i mean.

If you dont study your "dump" file when the sytem crashes delete that

Delete the other blank as well.... cant see as its cut off but its a prgram thats not related to Anti V

Post back with a list of JUST the ones running ie: ticked

also get startupCPL linked in the thread I said read then pop back with all remaining running stuff

Thanks all is well now, I used the StartupCPL and deleted what I didnt use. The problem was that I had to enable all of them for the strings to show up in StartupCPL, making it possible for me to delete them. Thanks again

Well, I've had that before. Unticked stuff in my Startup tab in msconfig...

In fact, that is not the place to delete the registry entries.

It is:
HK Local Machine/Software/Microsoft/Shared Tools/Msconfig/startupreg

Delete the entries there...

You know I did see that in the registry when I couldnt find what I was looking for and thought I had hit the jackpot but not know for sure. I didnt want to mess with it. Good to know thanks a bunch existenz
