Hi. I am using Norton Internet Security 2003 and the problem is it is blocking my Email and internet connection. If I disable it, i can the internet and my email. How can I configure this? It used to work but I didn't change any setup.. HELP ... :(

uninstall the firewall, it is garbage ... All seriousness, Norton Person Firewall is nothing to be bragging about. It is to touchy and picky - To configure it go to the program settings and see if the programs were given permission to access the net.

I was using Symantec Client Security for a while and dumped the firewall in it because it kept killing my connection in sporadic motions. One second it would be great, the next it would be as stiff as rigor mortis. It was keeping updates from my router from getting through. I had it set up to allow them by the way ;) The anti-virus on the other hand is awesome. Much better than "Norton" antivirus. All though it's the same engine, there is no extra garbage and it uses way less resources ..

Anyway, do what I said above. If that don't work get another firewall ..

Zone Alarm Free and kerio free are very good ones ..

I'm sorry I don't really have a solution. My parentals had/have the same issue (well only w/ email) and I've check, and double checked, and triple checked the firewall settings and can't find the problem. Was just as you described, worked find for ages then one day .. nothing. I have since disabled it and everything works fine.

Lets stick to Norton as that is her/his problem. The user does not want to hear what is good or what is bad in terms of firewalls or even antivirus. I am sure they would have started a thread asking for this advice.

I would suggest first, turning off xp's firewall. Then removing all inward and out bound permissions and let the software re ask if you want to allow certain connections to specific applications inward and outward.

When you have done this, if it still is giving you problems then post again.

Well, I had NIS2003 and set it up to detect the internet / email connection via the network wizard. Have you done this, as it sounds as though no rules have been created that allows connection to the internet itself.

This is what I hope the user understands, sometimes an alert comes up and you may have thought you hit accept, but maybe the user hit block and only way to make it work and accept permissions is to either remove all permissions or to find the one user has blocked modify it or remove it then wait to be asked for permissions again.

I stuck to Norton I thought. I only mentioned 3rd party firewall as a site note to a previous comment.

i had removed all in and outbound and set the new rule using network wizard. everything works fine now. thanks for all the posts. :)

Nah it's cool saved me posting all my pictures I screened.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
