Default XP lock up after log on - help!

Does anyone know why my XPhome might be locking up after log on?

Right after logging on and while the desk top is comming up the mouse freezes. The desk top continues to populate with all the right icons but the mouse cursor will not move. The computer will also not respond to ctrl-alt-del or anything else.

Of course I would have asked microsoft but their support website was, well ... pish.

On my system this happens about 20% of the time. It has always done this and appears not to be the result of any tweaks etc...

Help me,

Bob!

By the sounds of it, you have a bad driver for a device

i would suggest to boot into safe mode (F8) and remove whatever you installed last to cause the problem

also

go to run and type sfc and press enter

Check your hardware vendors for Driver updates and got to Windows Update
