It's been in development for so long that it had better be amazing. I'd say that it should surpass all expectations, but given the amount of time we've had to build up expectations, that might be a bit much to ask. Still, I think it's really important for Microsoft that Longhorn be a big success. Otherwise, they've spent half a decade on Longhorn while Apple's passed them by with Panther and Tiger (assuming Tiger is a huge improvement). Anyhow, here's to more waiting and rising expectations!

I am really anticipating the release of this. The hype is so thick you can cut it with a knife. I am wondering what the final name will be ? I hope it isn't anything stupid like Windows 2006 or something. They should give it a cool name like "Windows Johnny Bravo" Ooh Mama lol .....

I am willing to wait on the release date if the program is done right. I am just nervous that they are forcing the OS to be out on that date, and its gonna rush everything else and be bad.

if longhorn is not as memory intensive as I feel it is going to end up being... I will be most happy...
all the features and all are good but I don't want a memory hog if I can help it at all... |

it's got to be a memory hog guys...there'll be more resources available, and the os is being designed to take advantage of what the technology will have to offer.
it'll all be good. I think the minimum will be 2 gigs of memory to use all the features, with a sweet spot around 4 gigs |

Even if it is a hog u know that a month or so down the road there is gonna be someone that will have a guide to make it better (tweaks). It may seem a hog now but like kermit said most of our systems will be far more advanced and not everybody is gonna switch to longhorn when it first comes out. Maybe us nerds will but not normal users that just get on to look at porn and chat online.

the way it is going with memory. 2 gig could be the default amount with base model pc's by the time this comes out. I do agree that this will probably suck the resources dry. I read somewhere that they are recomending you to have a constant connection to the internet as well.

I don't see why a constant internet connection would be necessary, but then again, who knows what's coming?

/agrees...unless they plan on forsaking laptop and palmtop users, there's not gonna be any kind of protocol to keep a constant internet connection

Maybe mobile users like us will have ubiquitous wireless connectivity via satellites.

I imagnie there would be a lot of dynamic online content that will be on offer, and so *recommending* a broadband connection for full access to all features is hardly unexpected or unneccesary these days.
Resource wise, of course its going to use more memory etc, it'll probably be bigger with many new features avalible etc but system specs have increased much more in recent years than any increase in programs resource usage |
