could it be because the game is 16 bit and my desktop is 32 bit?

That could very well be it. Try running the desktop in 16-bit, and post what happens.

It could also be the MX card. I've heard many different horror stories about that card.

But try the desktop first, see how that goes...

Default tried different vid drivers?

I would try different video drivers if using GeForce based card. For example I had an issue with DAoC till i tried the detonator version 21.88 for win 2k. Try the www.guru3d.com for drivers.

aaarrrggghhhhh
Loads of good advice here...
BIG PC spec means nothing if PC is not upto PAR...
Try running Memory Managers..ie: Cacheman/RamIdle....

Real Speed is:
18" TFT
XP 2000 overclocked to 2.4
1 Gb of RAM
2 x IBM 60Gb 7200 - HDD
ATI Radeon ViVo 64RAM
Plat/Creative Labs
and the usual CDRW/DVD..etc....
it all means NOTHING if your PC is not sorted...run NOTHING, not a single prog runs on my PC till I tell it to...

Not wishing to preach...but get a second PC, me old one is..wait for this...2 x P1000 cpus, and 6 x 20Gb HDD, 19" Iiyama, Matrox, blah blah blah...if a game don't run on XP it will run on 98SE/ME.

Bottom line, Dual Boot, c:\ ME...d:\XP....email if you want more.

Reducing the desktop to 16bit from 32bit solved this problem for me.
