Modifying XP Namespace

I am trying to find a way to remove the Network Setup Wizard from XP Pro and could use a little help..well, maybe a lot of help.

First of all I don't understand why this is a part of XP Pro. The actual name is Home Network Setup Wizard. When viewing hnetwiz.dll with Resource Hacker it actually refers to it as Millenium Home Network Setup Wizard. (Much thanks to Grandmaster for the tips on Resource Hacker and shell mods). Anyone who has looked at this wizard know how dangerous it can be, especially for the avg user...and I have over 8000.

The NSW lives in 2 places...My Network Places and Network Connections. I successfully removed the wizard from My Network Places by deleteing the following key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\NetworkNeighborhood\NameSpace\{2728520d-1ec8-4c68-a551-316b684c4ea7}

I cannot find any reg keys that control the namespace for Network Connections. I can remove Network Connections from the Start Menu & Control Panel, but that is not an option for me...besides, right clicking My Network Places and selecting properties will open it.

As a interim solution I have modified the ACL on hnetwiz.dll to allow only the Administrator account to execute.

My feeling is that the icon in Network Connections is object based and is not defined within the registry.

I am considering re-compiling hnetwiz.dll by changing the control on the next button on the welcome screen to jump to the "not authorized" dialogue. But, honestly, I have no clue. I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually, but again, any help in that area would be great

Any help on this is greatly appreciated. There seems to be some very talented members in this forum. And I would like to say, as a new member making my first post, this is a great forum...well run and very helpful & informative. I don't join forums as a rule, but it did not take long after visiting this site for the first to decide to join.
