Default 16bit subsystem AUTOEXEC acnnot run this ?

hi, hadnt ever come across this problem before, but today i had it on 2 clients machines.. weird that both in same day..
anyway both are xpsp1a, i cleaned out virus's/trojans and spyware but still getting same problem when trying too instal different apps.. inc AVG free setup

when run installer, i cant remember exact message, but it was something along the lines of AUTOEXEC.NT. wouldnt allow 16bit insatllers too be ran..

any ideas, before i tell em i gotta reformat their comps? cheers

http://www.mcse.ms/message973827.html

seems is some app called windowsupdate that deleted the autoexec.. every startup..
there is no spyware or virus's left in the systems according too spybot/adaware SE /nod32 (all up too date)

now just gotta figure out how too get their autoexec back on
