Unhappy Can't send email with outlook 2003

 As the title says, I have recently upgraded to Office 2003 from Office Xp. Now when I open my email client (outlook 2003) I can receive email with no problems however, I cannot send email at all. I have tried Outlook Express and I am able to send and receive with no problems.

The error message is:

Task 'pop2.sympatico.ca - Sending' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

I have looked on the web for the error and have all hotfixes / patches installed. I have also uninstalled the application and reinstalled, I have also formatted the HD and re-installed and still same problem. I spoke with my ISP and they say all is okay on their end, especially since I am able to send with Outlook Express.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be the problem?

I am running XP Pro with SP2. I have modified the firewall to allow outlook.exe to access the internet.

I have posted on the microsoft community neswgroup but have had only 1 response so far.

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA
Sean

Have you enabled outbound authentication?

I believe some IP's on POP3 and SMTP insist (as an anti-spam) that you collect mail BEFORE they will authorise you to send.... just a thought, you might give that a try.

might want to check your smtp settings. Sympatico has these for various settings. If OE is working then I would suggest checking those settings and make sure you have the same outbound (smtp) servers listed.

POP (incoming mail) Server
pop1.sympatico.ca
pop2.sympatico.ca
pop6.sympatico.ca
pop8.sympatico.ca

SMTP (outgoing mail)
smtp1.sympatico.ca
smtp8.sympatico.ca
