I throw down SpySweeper, SpyBot, AdAware 6, CwShredder, and HiJackThis! for my anti-spyware needs. Between those 5, my system's nice'n'clean.

I would say use a browser other then IE and get a descent firewall and be careful what you install/download and you shouldn't really need to remove any spyware
