I always wondered about if I could speed up my home network transfers. Lots of info gets moved around between the two desktops, one laptop, and the FileServer. I was transferring a 250meg file into the FileServer from one desktop and I opened the TaskManager tosee the action. Under the Networking Tab, I noticed that the network percentage was at about 16% during the transfer. All machines have the same 10/100 ethernet card. Cat5 is the line that I am using. The routere which all machines connect directly to is a Linksys BESFR41. Shouldn't the percentage rate be more between if there nothing else travelling throught the lines? What can I use for seetings both the Network Connections properties and the ethernet card properties in the Device Manager? Heeter |

If you are using Windows XP, than this is normal. Windows XP does Quality of Service (QoS) control and will throttle bandwidth to provide ample network connections without flooding your lines. You can, however, turn this off in your network settings.

Another point worth remembering that if you enable WEP or similar encryption or SSID that will slow down the tfrs within the network as well ; as the system encrypts and then decrypts file information.
