If i purchase winxp pro upgrade and install it over my current blocked version will it make my copy legit? I would probably get the winxp student discount since i have 4 comps and have a friend who is a student.

if you have already activated a legal version then why do you need to change product key?

try deleting the wba.dbl and wba.bak files in safe mode, and then reboot and the activation screen should come up normally (it wont say already activated).

I'm still experiencing the same problem that Elemental Dragon listed,
"atapi.sys is being used by another program. please close all other programs and click retry" I have went into msconfig, turned off everything, restarted, tried to install, and get the same message. Tried it in safe mode....no luck. |

I went into my device manager and disabled my CD drives, and my virtual CD drive that alcohol creates. I also disabled my Secondary IDE Channel under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers in the device manager. Went to install, and it worked fine. Don't know why this worked, but it did.
