Default new laptop, no internet
I got a new laptop, and after I plugged in my network cable, I couldn't connect to the internet. what do I need to do? I'm attached to a router, and the other computers work fine. One strange thing is the router assigns the laptop an address of *.*.*.105, where the other computers have like 2, 3, 4. What do I need to do? I've already run the network setup wizard, and that didn't change anything.

*.*.*.105
I take it you mean 192.168.0.105, or at least the same first three as the other computers?
If it was assigned by the router and not set to it manually earlier, it really should work.

A long shot, but perhaps you have a modem on this computer? If you have to stop the computer from dialing everytime you start IE, it will enter offline mode and not be able to access the Internet. This is fixed by setting IE to "never dial" in the Internet settings.

can u give us the exact IP that ipconfig gives you? see if you can ping the router or other computers on the network.
