Question free email alternatives to hotmail?

any suggestions on free email alternatives to hotmail? specifically ones accessible through outlook since hotmail is going to block non-subscribers from doing this anymore. just like yahoo.

hotmail and yahoo are still accessible through any pop3 capable client via some great third party applications...

these are the ones i have tried, and work well:

yahoo: http://sourceforge.net/projects/yahoopops/

hotmail: http://sourceforge.net/projects/hotpop3/ , http://www.boolean.ca/hotpop/

I am still getting my hotmail free thru Outlook Express and they claimed I was going to have to pay - seems like two years ago!

Or did I misunderstand what 80proofgatorade said?

I've always used Postmark at www.postmark.net as backup e-mail. It also supports POP, so you'd be able to access mails from any e-mail client that supports POP including Outlook.

Yes - seems like they claimed they were going to cut off hotmail to those who did not pay for the extra storage - I still get periodic emails stating that hotmailin OE is stillonly a beta and they do not supply support!

What a joke. Don't they realize there are so many alternatives out there. Microsoft antics once again...
