what do you mean ?

half the avi size or splice it into 2 halves ?

to do the latter you need an editing program to manipulate the avi...

I'm a big fan of VirtualDub, but it might not be the simplest to use for this purpose. Check the link here for a couple of apps that will split and then rejoin avi or mpeg files.
